Case Study
A Well-rounded Achievement
How we did it:
All in all this major landscaping project took us three and a half months to complete. The plan called for laying a large, natural sand stone patio, building curved stone retaining walls with capping, and constructing a circular stone seating area designed to house a fire pit.
Before we could go ahead with building and paving we had to bring in the machinery and our skilled groundworks team to prepare the way and ensure we had a perfect foundation. Here at Landscaping Works (SW) Ltd. we firmly believe that good preparation makes for a structurally sound and durable end product.
We were able to supply all the required materials to satisfy the client’s request that the stone work – and pointing – we installed matched the local stone and lime mortar used to construct the house. Taking trouble to get the stone colours right were crucial for a perfect finish, and we always aim for perfection.
A particular challenge on this project was to ensure that all the retaining walls were installed with sufficient and suitable drainage at the rear of the walls to prevent the build up of hydrostatic pressure in the mass of earth behind them. The fact that most of the retaining walls we built in this garden were curved made this more complicated, but without effective drainage a retaining wall will shift and possibly fail completely over time.
The curvaceous walls were fitted with lighting as specified on the plan, so that once complete the entire patio and fire pit area could be utilised as a magical night-time entertainment space.
